We will be starting our Mystery Guest Reading Program in February. We need you to help us!
What is a Mystery Reader?
Mystery Readers are special guests who come to our classroom to read a story to students throughout the month of February.
Who are Mystery Readers?
Mystery Readers can be parents, grandparents, older siblings, or other relatives. Occasionally mystery readers may be staff members from Chatfield Elementary.
When do Mystery Readers come?
The best times for the Mystery Readers to come to our classroom are during opening at 8:30, before lunch at 11:00, or at the end of our day from 2:00-2:30. However, if a Mystery Reader needs a different time to suit their schedule, we'll be glad to accommodate!
Why use the Mystery Reader program?
Students love to see their parents, grandparents, and special friends get involved in our classroom. The Mystery Reader program allows any one who wants to become involved because it requires little time, but the memories will last forever for the surprised students!
How does the Mystery Reader program work?
Once you've signed up for a date to come read to our class, you can start thinking of a book you would like to bring to read. If you don't have a book, we will be glad to get one for you. We will ask you to write five clues about yourself. After the clues, we will let the students try to guess the reader, but we still do not reveal the Mystery Reader until they arrive. The students absolutely love having their family members and/or other special guests visit! Reading is highly valued in our classroom, and inviting parents into our community of readers strengthens the home-school connection that is so important in helping students grow as readers.
If you or someone in your family would like to participate, please fill out the form below. Please indicate the name of the person who is going to be the mystery reader, relation to your child, 2-3 choices for dates and if you will need a book from us. We will continue mystery readers throughout the month of February. Please place this form in an envelope and send it to school with your child! Your child will be SO excited that you or someone in your family participated, but remember to keep it "top secret" until your big day arrives!
