My name is Mrs. Gathje
I am extremely lucky to be doing what I absolutely LOVE to do--teach science. I fell in love with Biology when I was in the 9th grade, and I have been hooked ever since. I graduated from LeMoyne College in Syracuse, New York with a Biology major and a Chemistry minor. Then I moved to Minnesota to enter a PhD program at Mayo Clinic. After two years I earned a Master's Degree in Immunology and left Mayo because I desperately wanted to pursue a career in teaching instead of research. So I went to Winona State and completed a second Bachelor's degree in Secondary Life Science Education. I am double licensed in the State of Minnesota to teach Biology and Chemistry. I taught Biology for 7 years at John Marshall High school in Rochester, then took six years off to be home with my young family. This is my second year teaching in Chatfield.
I live on a dairy farm in rural Stewartville with my husband and three sons. Andrew is 11, Ben is 9 and Henry is 7. I am blessed to teach in the same district where they also attend school.
Outside of school I enjoy gardening, quilting, reading, and playing with my boys. Our family is also very involved in 4H.
It is a priviledge to teach again this year. I look forward to getting to know all of you. Please contact me with any questions and feel free to come in to introduce yourself!
