HISTORY DAY

MONDAY MARCH 15 AT WINONA STATE

Dear Parent / Guardian:

On Monday March 15th, the Southeast Regional History Day will take place at Winona State University. We will take a bus.. If your son / daughter wishes to ride home with you, I need to have a written note (you can give it to me at Winona). If they wish to ride home with another parent, I must have a note from the office (Mr. Paulson). No exceptions!!! We will leave the school at 3:15 and should expect to be home somewhere around 9:00.  The event takes place at Kryzko Commons (student union) Parking is available right next to the building. The awards ceremony is following the judging. I would expect sometime after 7:00. It depends on the number of participants needing to be judged. Parents and friends are welcome to watch the performances and documentaries, as well as view the exhibits. However, the exhibits are closed off for an hour or so before the awards to allow for a final judging round. Parents, friends etc. are strongly encouraged to attend the awards ceremony.

I buy pizza for the students.  Parents and family are welcome to join us. I need $1.00 per person. I’ll get numbers when we get there. I’ll order the pizzas around 5:30. If you can not be there by 5:30 but would like pizza, tell your son or daughter, or email me. We will tentatively eat around 6:30 to avoid as many judging times as possible. All times are subject to change due to entry numbers etc.

Students should dress comfortably. Dress should not be in any way connected to the project. Students will be asked several questions by the judges. These are designed to make sure that students did the project, not to intimidate the students. I would encourage students to watch / view other performances, etc.

I will inform students of judging times when I receive them. Students need to be prepared to be judged 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time. Remember, judging is subjective. Judges go through a short training prior to judging and do their best to be fair.

Students need to be certain to bring their projects, four copies of their title page, research summary and bibliography (stapled in that order).

Please call me at 867-4210 or email me at thilgren@chatfield.k12.mn.us  with questions.
