Spring Sport Pictures - March 30, 2010
The Spring sport's seasons are just around the corner. Practice for Boy's & Girl's Track along with Softball begins on March 15. The following week, March 22, Boy's & Girl's Golf and Baseball begin. We will try and set a practice schedule for inside practices. Keep in mind that in the Spring practices can change to outside or inside depending on the weather.
Spring weather, just like Winter, can cause problems with schedules. If school is cancelled at any time during the day all practices will be cancelled as well. Game cancellations and reschedule dates can best be found on the Chatfield School website under links(you may have to scroll down and it will be on either side of the home page). Click on the Three Rivers Conference Calendar. Once on that site you can view the days schedule, weekly schedule,or individual team schedules. If you want automatic email notification of changes, click on Notify me near the top of the calendar page and follow the instructions to set yourself up.
Coaches will have an informational letter which you will find below.
The major item to keep in mind getting ready for the season is that all Minnesota State High School League forms, physical forms, and activity fees MUST be signed and turned in to me or the coach before your child may BEGIN PRACTICE. If your child participated in a Fall or Winter sport, the ONLY thing you will need to take care of is the activity fee if you haven't already done so. The Minnesota State High League form and insurance waiver must be signed in 3 areas by the parents and in 2 locations by the athlete. Physicals are good for 3 years. Normally students get these before 7th grade and before 10th grade. If for some reason this is not the case, you may need to check to see if your student needs a physical. All of these forms are found at the bottom of this page or in the office.
NEW this year is the increase in activity fees. Each sport will now be $100.00 with a family cap of $400.00. If you as a family qualify for the free or reduced lunch program, you would also qualify for free or reduced activity fees. Fees must be paid or free and reduced forms must be filled out before the athlete can begin practice.
The next item to keep in mind once school begins is the down/off list. This list is a way the activities dept. and the coaches monitor the academic progress of its participants. The school has a policy set in place that assures a student activity’s participant is making progress in the classroom. Each week, teachers in 7-12 get a list of activity participants during that season. If a participant is not making adequate progress in a class they are marked on this list. The list is given to the activities dept. Coaches and parents are notified at this time. The first time an individual is on the list, they are considered down. There is a one week period in which the individual has to get their work up to standards for that class. During the week, the student can still practice and play in games. If after this week the student has improved, then they will no longer be on the list. However, if they are put on the list for two consecutive weeks in the same subject they would be put on the off list. While on this list, students are not able to participate in practice or in games for that week. This could continue longer than a week if progress is not made. Keep talking to your athlete about keeping their grades up. Parents can monitor student’s grades on the school website under the Family Access for Skyward using their school password. If you do not know your password, email Barb Sass in the High School office to find out what your password is. Her email address is bsass@chatfield.k12.mn.us
Another item is bus procedures. We would like everyone to ride the bus to and from the events when a bus is provided. If your child does need to ride home with you, a note signed by you must be given to the coach. If someone other than the parent is providing a ride for your child, then this must be pre-approved by the Principal or the Activities Director.
Once again, you will find the link to the MN State High School League forms, physical forms, as well as Team letters and information below. The main office at the High School also has these forms. Schedules for the teams can be found on the Three Rivers Conference Calendar link on the Home Page or in the individual sports link on this page.
Thank you and let’s have a great 2009-2010 school year.
